‘Neverending Story’: Donald Trump will run for president, but his campaign is already in trouble with the law

NEW YORK — Donald Trump is running for president and is already running into trouble with law enforcement.

But he is already being sued for $4 million in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in the Southern District of New York.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal disputes between Trump and law enforcement agencies, and comes amid an escalating feud between Trump’s presidential campaign and the FBI.

Trump has said that he will not run for re-election in 2020, but the case shows how the former reality TV star is now facing a potential lawsuit in the wake of an explosive series of events involving him and his campaign.

In the lawsuit, Trump’s campaign said it has been served a subpoena to provide documents in response to a request by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern district of New Jersey to obtain records relating to the activities of its campaign and Trump associates, including the former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former campaign adviser Carter Page.

The lawsuit seeks records from March 2020 to December 2020 and documents and records that relate to communications with the FBI and Department of Justice, according to the complaint.

The suit claims the FBI has sought records on more than 2,000 Trump associates since March 2020, including Manafort, who was indicted earlier this month on conspiracy and other charges.

Trump is a target of a separate lawsuit filed by the former U.K. foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, who alleges he was targeted by Russian intelligence operatives after Trump was elected.

In an attempt to obtain information on Trump associates and others, the FBI reportedly made contact with a number of people in 2016.

A federal court in Brooklyn has ordered the release of records related to the FBI’s investigation of Johnson, but in a ruling last week, U.N. special rapporteur António Guterres said the U:s request for the records “appears to be an attempt by the FBI to circumvent the rule of law by seeking records that have nothing to do with an investigation into any criminal activity.”

The case against Manafort and Page was also unsealed.

Manafort is accused of helping a pro-Russian political party to gain control of the government in Ukraine, including a government-owned bank that was later sold to a Russian bank.

The court documents said Page was hired to lobby against U.C.L.A. and a Russian law that requires foreign companies to register with the U, as well as a law that forbids U.s companies from paying for ads on foreign websites.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Manafort is also the subject of a lawsuit against the Trump Organization, which is also seeking documents related to his involvement with Trump’s inauguration.
